In Character Information:

Name: Bayonetta
Age: uhhhh. really fucking old. She was at least mid twenties when she was impaled, then 500 years passed, and then another 20 after that. So like... 545ish?
Series: Bayonetta
Timeline: endgame.

Personality: Bayonetta is the type of woman who just exudes confidence. She's aware of her sexual prowess, comfortable in the power she holds, not just over men but over the dark arts as well. She holds herself with a certain swagger and bravado that most women wouldn't dare to replicate. She's a person, who, despite for a very long time not being sure of her origins, is very comfortable with who she is.

She likes to tell herself she isn't the type of person to gain emotional attachments, although people do have the ability to grow on her, and after she rediscovers who she truly is she's more open to the people who want to surround her. Not to say she's any more warm and fuzzy than she was before, but she does allow herself to show concern, where previously she would mostly just throw out a joke, a smile and a wink, and be on her way, keeping the distance.

She doesn't have much guilt, although most of it would likely stem from feeling like she'd possibly failed the Umbra, and being, in a way, directly responsible for the end of the witches. She doesn't actively think this, of course, but it is a shadow of doubt that she grew up with, and while it has been pushed aside and away, especially in having to kill her insane father who was more at fault than she ever was, that fear and guilt will linger at the bottom of her heart.

History: Bayonetta started life as a girl named Cereza. She was raised in the clan of Umbra, but was forced into the role of an outcast, due to the nature of her lineage and birth. Cereza had been born of a union between an Umbran witch and a Lumen Sage, two clans who oversaw time in an uneasy alliance. Her birth was seen as a prophecy fulfilled that should the two lines intersect the end of both clans would be brought upon them. Cereza's mother was imprisoned, and her father was exiled from the Sages, but the damage had been done.

Fighting between the clans commenced, and the alliance crumbled, while they both sought to gain power over the other. Cereza was raised in such a way as she was to keep from the path of the dark arts, although this changed as she aged. She played with another girl, Jeanne, and they were close friends until Cereza's outcast status drove them apart. After a time, it was called for Jeanne to fight another witch to decide who would become the new overseer, and possess the Left Eye, a unique stone that allowed the Umbran Witches to oversee time, the match to the Lumen Sage's Right Eye. Jeanne chose Cereza, despite this being forbidden, but they were still permitted to fight. Alarmingly enough, Cereza won, and became the new overseer.

All this time, the battles between the Sages and the Witches raged on, and the Witches began to gain an upper hand, although fear was suddenly struck into the hearts of the humans that the witches and sages oversaw, and the Umbran Witch hunts began. The clan suffered considerably from this, and in their weakened state, the Sages and their angelic monstrosities broke down the barriers of the Umbran sanctuary and ravaged the clan. They were devastated, and it was Jeanne who sought to end the fight, doing the only thing she could think of and seemingly betraying Cereza, stabbed her former friend in the heart, sending her into a deep slumber and sealing her away at the bottom of a lake, the Left Eye along with her.

Cereza slept for 500 years, while the end of sages and witches came, and the world moved without the Eyes of the World overseeing them. She was finally awoken by a man named Antonio Redgrave, who had become obsessed with uncovering the history lost to time. He was murdered before her, and his son, Luka, bore witness. He grew up chasing and resenting the woman who his father had freed from the bottom of the lake, though even her memories of this time were fogged, as she awoke from her slumber. She knew it had been the angels who had killed Antonio, but she never offered Luka much explenation beyond it being a simple misunderstanding, whenever he managed to chase her down in an attempt to expose her.

When she awoke, Cereza could remember nothing of her past, beyond that she was of Umbran lineage, and that the red stone set upon the adornment on her chest was part of a set called the Eyes of the World. She sought out information, clues into her past, and found help in the form of a demon bartender, Rodin, and an informer named Enzo. She took on the name Bayonetta, and built a new future for herself, killing as many angels as possible to maintain her demonic pact. Twenty years passed before she was informed of a seller on the black market trying to move a stone alleged to be a part of a set called the Eyes of the World. This put Bayonetta on the track to finding her past, finally, and it all began when she encountered her first witch upon awaking, Jeanne. She remembered the woman's face, but couldn't place it until after several encounters, but Jeanne was a constant thorn in her side during her trip to find the seller of the Right Eye.

She traveled to Vigrid, a city where she had fought in the past although did not recall, and as she moved through the city and fought with angels, she was reminded of things she was unable to fully grasp. She also came upon Luka, whom she had referred to as Cheshire over the years, due to his impeccable ability to show up and be annoying, and also because he reminded her of a stuffed cat she had when she was young, although this was something she did not recall.

As she moved through the city she also found herself in the company of a small child named Cereza, who insisted on referring to her as 'mummy.' This was, in fact, Bayonetta as a child, who had been stolen from her own time to assist Bayonetta in her journey, and help her remember who she had once been. Bayonetta as an adult just happened to be a dead ringer for her own mother, so Cereza was easily misled by her father into thinking that her older self was her parent.

Bayonetta left Cereza in Luka's care while she moved towards her goal, the Isla del Sol, where the head of the Ithavoll group who had been selling the stone lay in wait for her. She faced Jeanne a final time, in which the other witch revealed to her the fragments of her past that were still clouded. She was the child that had caused the rift between the clans, and she and Jeanne had once been friends. Bayonetta thought that Jeanne was killed in a missle blast, and regretting not being able to save her friend she continued on, meeting up with Luka and Cereza again at the headquarters of the Ithavoll group.

She was separated from both Luka and Cereza when the little girl took off into the building, saying her father was calling for her and Bayonetta gave chase, ultimately coming face to face with the head of the group, her own father, Balder.

Luka was then seemingly murdered by Balder, after the sage revealed to him that he had been the one to murder Antonio, not Bayonetta. Using the missle they'd arrived on the island with, however, Bayonetta was able to keep Luka from falling to his death, while she engaged in battle with her father, whom she rejected for all the people he had killed for his goals.

Seemingly defeating Balder, Bayonetta then took Cereza and returned her to the past, which inadvertently caused the Left Eye to activate. Bayonetta was overcome by it, and fell unconscious, where Balder then took her to the statue of Jubileus and set her within its left eye.

Jeanne was able to wake her before Jubileus had fully awakened, however, and Bayonetta, furious for being used turned on Jubileus, fighting the creature that awoke, and ultimately defeating it. Together, Jeanne and Bayonetta broke the statue apart, and then fell back to earth.

After they returned to earth Bayonetta and Jeanne fell in together at fighting and killing angels, reunited as Umbran sisters.

Abilities/Powers: LOL um. Bayonetta is a witch, so she has a variety of godmodey abilities in summoning demons. Since this isn't her proper world, she's going to be completely unable to do any summoning, since she can't communicate with Inferno. Her general magical abilities will be dimmed, not that it particularly matters since it's all fairly useless against ghosts. She'd probably still be able to pass into Purgatorio, since that's more of a z-space than anything, but only in the waking world, and it'd be stifling as hell. Also useless and people with demonic and/or magical abilities would be able to see her anyway, so she'd probably just use it to dick around the humans. She'll also only have on her her Scarborough Fair guns and Kulshedra (her whip).

Third Person sample: There was a distinct crack of gunfire, followed by a peal of laughter as several low ranking angels crashed to earth. They were staggered, some exploding completely from the impact. One of the unfortunate ones to survive the fall was only given a moment to recover before a stiletto heel came crashing down on its skull, bullets from the gun mounted on the shoe assuring the creature's death. Bayonetta smirked, glancing back down at the body, before it exploded behind her, and she focused her attention forward again, at the few remaining divine beings.

"You boys picked the wrong day to go soul searching," she cooed, that self assured smirk still present as she used the barrel of one of her guns to adjust her glasses. Tilting her head to the side she watched the angels, gearing up to attack her again, completely unconcerned. They were no match, for her, really. She sighed, drawing one hand into the folds of her sleeves and coming up with a strawberry lollipop, the smirk on her lips widening while she stuck the candy into her mouth, her eyes catching movement to her left.

"Oh now that's just not fair, trying to sneak up on me!" she spun, guns out and spraying the offending angel with bullets before he could even realize he was boned. Then she turned on the others, a look of utter disdain crossing her features.

"Honestly, you lower class fools are hardly even a challenge any more. But, work is work, I suppose."

First person Sample: [Bayonetta was startlingly used to waking up in strange new places. However, this didn't look quite like any of the usual odd trips she took, which was enough to put her into a wary sense of being. She also wasn't really digging the accommodations. Frowning a little, she pushed herself up from the bed and wandered over to the window, leaning a hand against the glass and scanning the scenery below.]

Now what is this. I don't remember saying I was going to have a midlife crisis and buy a flat in rural Japan.

[There was also that unsettling dream, and while her dreams did often err on the sketchy side, she didn't usually dream like that So, after a moment longer staring out the window, she turned on the spot, drawing a circle in the air with her finger and passing through the portal to Purgatorio.

This was even more unsettling because there was a distinct lack of the usual comfort she felt in limbo. It was like the air was thicker.]

Well this is just fantastic.

[Still, she continued out into the hallway to further investigate. Because it was just easier to see and not be seen, sometimes. Mortals could be so infuriatingly bothersome, sometimes.]

Notes: SO WHERE CAN ONE FIND UNICORN HORNS, MANDRAGORA ROOT, AND BAKED GECKO? SURPLUS AT THE CONVENIENCE STORE OR IS BAYONETTA GONNA HAVE TO BREAK SOMEONE'S PLANT POTS?
